Turkey is an ideal country for travelling. You can see here everything: majestic cities, unterrain beautiful mountains and not only one, but four elvish seas. It is a fairytale country, which I want to visit in the future again.
Day 1 [/]
The group meeting was held at Antalya bus station. In the morning the participians of the Lycian Way hike arrived to the bus station, someone came with his beloved, someone came alone. Everyone looked a little bit nervous, but amost immediately we began to get acquainted with each other. Everyone brought canned meat, and we bought the other necessary things in the nearest supermarket. We had been walking around the supermarket Migros for a few hours, because the list of products was big enough and we didn't want to forget something. We put all things into our backpacks and went by bus to the beginning of the main route. We spent one hour in the bus and afterwards went along the road to the camp. We had a lot of time so we went swimming to the Goynyk Canyon. This is a very beautiful place and the water is completly emerald.
We came back to the camp, put up our tents and started to prepare delicious dinner.
Then we began to tell stories about ourselves and about our hobbies. The atmosphere thanks to our guide Ivan Dobrynskyi remained friendly and warm from the first till last day of our trip. So there were 13 participians and our guide, among them were Ukrainians, Russians and Belorusians. It was almost dark and late, so we went to sleep, tomorrow is coming soon.
You must know that this day was not the easiest one. First of all we climbed into the wonderful forest, someone made it easily, someone suffered and slowly overcame every meter.
But all of us made our best and had lunch. Delicious salo (salted unrendered pork fat) and sausages from Ukraine, different kinds of cheese, halva (a type of dense, sweet confection) and chocolate with dried fruits. What cuold be better! But it was too early to rest for a long time, a descent awaits. The descent is always easier, but all difficulties were surmountable in such a big and nice group like ours. Soon we saw before us a small but snaky obstacle. The weather was bad and the river crossing with large slippery boulders wasn't very comfortable.
Someone fell, stumbled, soaked to the skin, but everything has its happy end.
And here we were again on the forest path, could feel and see solid ground and beautiful river on the left. The river was really beautiful, we took a bath and while sitting near the fire, eating hot soup and drinking tea with cookies, we could think over finally this day.
Almost every day we tried to go to sleep early, because we had to wake up with the first sun rays. At seven o'clock in the morning we were cooking something again, running througt the camp and gathering our things for going farther and higher. This day was also rainy, but it is always a great joy for us, tourists) All the hardships were recouped by pomegranate garden and cafe, where we drank juice and ate.
Sometime we went on the path and slowly descended to the village. I cannot forget the satisfied light in our eyes, when we saw the shop and bought there something delicious. And then we made a decision - we could get to the camp by car. And it was a very good idea, we arrived and imidiately set up the tents, because it gets dark there early.
I would like to note that we could hear the muezzin singing from the nearest village, but not only in the evening, traditionally the muezzins pray five times a day.
Such things give a certain mystique for the Lycian Way hike and also our guitarists Roman and Alexander always supported cheerful spirit with their hartwarming songs. In the end they even wrote a song in Ukrainian, it was really nice and funny)
Oh, what a great luck, finally the sun decided to spend with us the rest of our hike to the very last days)
"Wake up, wake up, wake up!" - in such a way Antonchyk awoke everybody knocking on the tents. We packed our bags and immediately saw a favourite climb, but the forest was unrealistic and so clean, it took us on a path somewhere in his green jungle.
Hundreds and hundreds of pine trees were changed slowly by cedars. Their flattened but rather broad crowns looked very pleasant and you understand, that's it, happiness, here and now.
We reached our new camp very fast. Someone began to prepare food for dinner, someone went to the hut to bring some water, but I and several members had a lot of inner energy, so we decided to climb the hill, on which was a Turkish flag.
Traditionally we sang and listened to songs near the fire in the evening. There were also other groups of tourists, so one Ukraininan guy joined our friendly company. He had a mysterious Hawaiian guitar named ukulele. The Lycian Way is full of surprises) So we decided to make mini-drums from our small pan and maracas from the bottle with dried vegetables. Guys organised the great show, the whole camp couldn't sleep for a long time. Ukrainian, Russian and English songs changed each other. But now, it is too late and we must go to sleep while tomorrow...Oh we are going to climb Mountain Tahtali tomorrow. Good night everybody!
Day 5 [/]
Here was the morning again and we packed our backpacks, Tahtali, we are so close! In the shade of trees we left our bags and slowly but confidently we went to conquer the peak. You are higher and higher and it seems that you can touch the skies. We left the forest and came out on the path. We saw so unfamiliar landscape, gray-brown and treeless, here was the peak, but no, we saw a hill, a lot of hills).
But all paths were passed, all hills were overcome and here it was - the pride of Turkish mountains - majestic Tahtali! At the top we could see a big house, in which you can buy something in the cafe or watch the mountains from the viewpoint. It is a real paradise for tired travelers) We made an order and a lot of photos, ate tasty lunch on the way down and only after that we came back to Katya and to our bags.
Than we went through the chilly forest to our camp. It was near the house of cranch but we decided not to disturb his solitude and went down to the forest, where we found a very comfortable place.
The day was fine and we walked slowly towards the village Beychik and then down and down, to the road in Ulupinar, where we could enjoy the pleasures of civilization. Here in a beautiful cafe we ordered fish and other dishes of Turkish cuisine, for example, hot halva. Everything was very tasty and the waiters were also friendly. Turkish people are very peaceful, you never see the moody person, they smile, can tell you a lot of things and are always ready to help. They look very happy.
After such a delicious lunch it was so hard to stand up and go, but we had to) We went along the road and through the forest path again and then hit the point of our destination for today. The river near the camp was dried up, but we were lucky to find the well with splashed and poppled water.
First of all we washed up and put up our tents, then late in the evening, in the darkness only having our helmet lights, we went to the Chimera. This is the mountain, where the gas comes out of the ground and at night, especially at night, it looks from afar just like the wandering scary lights.
From this place we could also see the village Cirali, where we will go tomorrow. This wonderful moment we decided to celebrate taking with us sausages and some wine. We prepared sausages right here. After this walk everyone saw wondrous and mystical dreams.
Today we have passed the Chimera lights again and on the way to Cirali met such lights near the old ancient temple. But in the day-time these lights were almost invisible and didn't cause any feelings. From the old temple we went down to the national park exit. It turned out that it was almost the end of the pedestrian part of the Lycian Way hike and began seal, but very saturated recreation near the sea).
There were a lot of shops and benches, here we ate ice cream and finally went to the beach. We have been waiting for this moment since the first hiking day) The Mediterranean Sea is an incredibly warm and pretty place on our planet. The village of Cirali was almost empty and silent at this time of year. We decided to put up our tents on the beach, very close to the sea, only ten meters or less.
In the evening one part of our group went to the cafe, the another one stayed near the sea and prepared festive dinner. Till late night we set and listened to songs accompanied by guitar, ocarina and flute, because we didn't need to go anywhere in the morning, next day we'll spend here in Cirali).
I want to explain why we decided to take a nap and lay on the beach today. According to the plan we had to cover a long distance, but our guide found out that there will be no water in our next camp. We were happy to hear these news, because we felt ourselves so good here)
Having met the sunrise I must admit, we really spent half a day on the beach, it was so hard) It seemed to me that the gravity force was bigger in this place or we became so lazy. Impossible or possible?)
After lunch we went with our guide to the ancient city Olympos. The entrance was paid, but we were so mischievous, and entered the city through the fence hole for free) So in a few minutes we got to the city center. This place was pretty nice and made you think about impermanence of life. After this walk we came back to the beach for "hard working").
At 11 o'clock in the morning we took the ship with the help of which we got to one of the best beaches with incredibly pure water.
After swimming and good lunch we went to Adrasan. It was necessary to go for a few hours, but in one hour we were lucky to stop a car. Having put our backpacks into the car one part of the group went to Adrasan with this driver and the another part went on foot but easily.
Adrasan is also a small village, even smaller than Cirali, I think. There were a lot of cafes and hostels right near the beach, so we couldn't sleep here comfortably. Well? Let's go to the forest)
In some minutes we came to our camp, but most of our participians didn't like this idea. Some people went to the hostel. But why did we need to pay more?) There were free showers on the beach, clean tap water near the road and a lot of space for tents.
But the smells from cafes began to flurry our feelings and thoughts. Let's say "no" to soup on fire, we want to spend money. We have been looking for a nice cafe for a long time and finally we found a cozy and cheap place, where the dishes were very tasty and big, so we were pleasantly surprised.
Day 10 [/]
Yesterday evening our guide met the ship owner Halim to discuss all questions about the upcomming journey.
All day long we had to go for a row, swim, walk, eat and enjoy the views, bask in the sun and even disperse pushy flies.
So here was finally our ship.
Someone was choosing a place to relax, someone was looking for motion sickness pills. But we had an experienced navigator and we have been walking for an hour and a half along the coast to the Cape Gelidonya. This cape was fantastic, I cannot describe it only with words, you must see it.
From the cape we went on foot to the lighthouse, where we enjoyed the awesome sea veiws and the views of islands.
After sitting in the pavillion near the lighthouse and listening to a few songs we returned to the ship.
At this time the lunch was prepared for us - a salad with fresh vegetables, spaghetti and baked fish. Thanks to the cooks!
The highlight of the day was the visit of an island. Having tasted watermelon and melon, having swam in the blue, crystal clear and clean water, we went home to Adrasan.
It was the last day of my stay here. So we went to the cafe and than to the beach. We listened to songs, some of them were happy, the others were sad and far away in the distance we could watch the thunderstorm. We have just seen the lightnings and the elements fortunately didn't prevent us to say goodbye.
Also I want to thank all the participians of the Lycian Way hike. It was my best hike and I spent with you so many nice days. You are great!
Hope to see you again!
